An FD calculator works out the maturity value of a bank fixed deposit — how much your principal will be worth once it finishes earning interest over the chosen tenure.
Indian bank FDs typically compound quarterly, meaning interest is calculated and added to your principal four times a year rather than once, which slightly increases your effective return compared to simple annual compounding.
How This Calculator Works
A = P × (1 + r/n)n×t, where P is your deposit, r is the annual interest rate, n is the compounding frequency, and t is tenure in years. Most Indian banks use quarterly compounding by default.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is FD interest taxable?
Yes. Interest earned on a fixed deposit is added to your total income and taxed at your applicable income tax slab rate. Banks also deduct TDS if interest exceeds the prescribed annual threshold.
What compounding frequency should I choose?
Check your specific FD scheme — most Indian bank FDs compound quarterly. Some post office and NBFC deposits may compound differently, so use the frequency stated in your FD certificate.
Do senior citizens get a higher FD rate?
Most Indian banks offer a preferential rate — typically 0.25–0.75% higher — for senior citizens. Check your bank's current rate card and enter that rate here.
